Well I did nothing for Halloween, but the weekend before I went with Tressa and Abbie down to the high school state volleyball tournament. It was a lot fun, Enterprise took 3rd, we hung out with Tressa's family and came back home early Sunday morning. Then I took 2 tests that week, one in Dynamic Fitness and one in Creative Arts. I aced the Dynamic Fitness test, but haven't heard back on the Creative Arts one yet. Other than that I have just been studying and working out. One of my roommates bought a couple of pet crabs this week. She named them Jean Claude and Sebatian. One of them keeps ripping legs off of the other one, so we will probably only have one crab pretty soon. I went back to the Dr. on Wednesday and we decided to go get the rod put in my leg. I meet with the surgeon on Monday and I will have more details then. Until then I am still just crutching around, and hanging in there. We did get to register this week...I am going to take Anatomy, Intro to Physical Therapy, English 2010, a nutrition class, and a general physical science class.

Well I graduated from the boot! I now have a brace and can put 14 pounds on my leg...how you tell is a mystery to me, but it is nice. regardless of what it sounds like my leg isn't really improving, but there is no sense in staying off of it completely if that isn't helping it heal either. So we will do this for a while and if it starts to hurt again then I will go and get a rod in it. Hopefully if I have to get a rod it will be relatively soon so I can start practicing quickly! Anyway here are a couple of pictures. We got all of our gear last week and it is so nice!! It is all nike stuff and the name tag was on the backpack and it makes me feel all official! :)

So it has been three weeks since I was sentenced to crutches and a bone stimulator (aka boot). To put an end to any rumors floating that I might be done with that sentence, they aren't true. Apparently the Dr. doesn't believe in probation or release for good behavior. :) Its probably a good thing but it is a pain. I will go back in 3 more weeks and see how it is doing. Until then I still have to stay completely off of it and continue doing upper body and core workouts. It has been a lot of fun crutching around campus in the rain and I am so excited for when it snows and I get to crutch in that. Maybe it will wait a few more weeks before it hits.

I had two tests this week and I passed them both. I got a 90 on my dynamic fitness test and a 93 on my creative arts test. Tonight I went to the football game and finally USU was able to pull off a win. They beat Wyoming 63-19. It was rather chilly at the game but it was a lot of fun. That pretty much sums up my week. Hope you had a great week too.

Well I had a good weekend. Conference was great. Saturday I watched it in the basement of our apartment with 4 other people. That night our stake did a rebroadcast of the Relief Society Broadcast since it had been during the Homecoming Game. Before the broadcast they had a light dinner, so I went over to that. It was really good also especially President Uchtdorf's talk. Sunday I made raisin bread in my bread maker and shared it with the people who came to the basement for the morning session. For the afternoon session I went to my cousin Skye's apartment and watched it with her. After a couple of her friends from her mission stopped by so I met them, then Skye and I drove up the canyon to Tony Grove. It was so pretty! All of the leaves were changing colors and it was cool. After that we came back to my apartment and made dinner. It was a great day!

Well you can't see really well in this picture, but you can kind of see where the crutches rub on my arm and where it is raw. it is about half way up my bicep...there is a matching spot on my ribs...it isn't as bad and I won't be posting a picture.

The Dr. is claiming the reason I can't swim any more is because I told them that it hurt my leg. I have no recollection of that! I did tell my coach that my leg hurt one day but it was because I slipped in the shower and the natural reaction is to put that leg down. so it was sore for a day after that but the doctor says that it was sore from swimming. Anyway he is letting me run in the pool. They have aquajoggers that you strap around your waist and it is kind of like a weight lifting belt made from foam and it holds you up. Then you run. I'm not sure how that differs from kicking, because it feels about the same to me, but if doc is happy whatever! :)

My arms are finally getting used to hauling me around. I made it from Old main to the Fine arts building today without stopping! It took about 13 minutes and is probably a half a mile if not farther! I was pretty proud of that feat...I also carried my laundry up to my room all by myself last night (up 2 flights of stairs). My roommates just roll their eyes when I do stuff like that and am proud of it, but it makes me feel like I'm not totally useless! Pretty soon I will be able to say that I took a step by myself. :)

Have a great week!

Well I got to swim for a few days before that privilege was revoked. The Dr. is claiming that he never gave me permission to swim so I am done with that for a while. He did say that I could kick board as long as I only kicked with my good leg. Luckily I am still allowed to lift weights and work my upper body and core. I had my first test this week. It was in Calculus, and my teacher walked around the room giving out hints and helps. It was pretty nice! Yesterday I went to the movie 17 Miracles. It was really good. After that I trekked over to the football game. It only took like 30 minutes to walk the mile there, and then 10 minutes to get in the gate. On the way home a guy in a golf cart gave me a ride home so that was really nice. Well that was pretty much my week plus a lot of homework. :) Have a great week!

I went to my third workout today...okay walking around on crutches is a workout therefore almost everything I do is a workout. :) My workout schedule is swimming MWF and core/upper body TR. I also lift weights on MWF. I have come to realize how out of shape I am and how horrible of a swimmer I am, my coach assures me that is the best way to be so that you can get a good workout from it. Believe me I am getting a good workout from it! I am getting used to the crutches so it isn't too bad. I guess I should do some homework instead of putting it off any longer.

Had my first workout today...I could definitely tell that I haven't had a hardcore workout for several months. We did a couple of circuits for core and upper body. Tomorrow I get to go workout in the pool. Today I got my bone stimulator and crutches. The bone stimulator is in the form of a boot. It is really heavy and weird looking because of the batter pack on it. The crutches will definitely take some getting used to and were really hard to use after being wiped out from the workout. I have yet to attempt showering with only one leg..that ought to be fun.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Well 2nd time around they got the CT of the right spot and last night I got the results from the Dr. The good news was that the CT looked better than he thought it would. Bad news is it didn't look good enough so he is putting me on crutches and a bone simulator for 3-6 weeks. He said to plan on 6 not 3. The ironic part is that now that I can't put any weight on my leg, I can workout--go figure. Tomorrow I will officially start practice! MWF I will do workouts in the pool and TTh I will do upper body and core.

I can't believe that this week is over already! Since Monday was a holiday and I don't have any classes on Thursdays I only went to class 3 times and it definitely doesn't feel like a Friday. It has been quite the week. Wednesday as I was going over to practice I got a phone call from Mallory, one of the team trainers saying that Dr. Lyons wanted to meet with me that night. That wasn't too much of a surprise because I knew she would be calling sometime to set up the appointment. What I wasn't expecting was when I got up to my coach's office she told me she had got a text from Coach Gensel saying, "No workouts for Jodi." We talked for a minute about my appointment with doc that night and she wrote a list of exercises that I was to ask if I could do. That night I went to my dr. appointment and Dr. Lyons told me that he didn't like the looks of my x-rays. Long story short he didn't think that it was healing and wanted to do a CT scan to see what was really going on. The next day I got a call from Mallory saying I had a CT scan appt. at the hospital and did I have a way to get there. I told her no and she volunteered to take me, which was really nice so I didn't have to take the bus! I got there got my CT scan and was back out in 30 minutes. Then she told me to come back tomorrow (Friday) and we would talk to doc about it...set a plan of action. When I went back for that appointment, I was told that the geniuses at the hospital took the scan of my ankle and not my tibia!!! Therefore I would have to go get another one on Monday, probably won't be analyzed and discussed until Tuesday. Not a big deal, except I can't practice until we get to the bottom of this. The thing that really kills me is that I specifically told the technicians where the fractures where and the area that he wanted! Yet somehow they still messed it up.....

Yesterday I got to go help with the Cross Country meet. Jen, another multi on the track team, and I helped people safely cross the road. It was so exciting! Luckily no one died while we were there! The men's team finished 2nd and the women's 4th so overall it was a good meet...especially since they fed us breakfast when it was all over.

Last night I went to the volleyball game and ISU was playing Syracuse. After the game ended I was able to talk to Tressa. Unfortunately they are planning on red shirting her so I wasn't able to watch her, but it was still fun to see her.

Today after church and dinner I walked down to the temple. It was so pretty and peaceful. I took a few pictures...like 50 so here are a couple of the best ones. I especially like the last one in the reflecting pool.

So I have been in Logan for almost a week now. I have been to all of my classes and it is definitely different from high school...just in case anyone was wondering! I am living on campus in Greaves Hall. It is quite old...it is rumored that some of the professors grandparents stayed in them while they went to college.  Our dorm has 3 bedrooms each with a bunk bed, a kitchen, living room area, and a bathroom. It is definitely the weirdest bathroom ever. It is split into two sections. In one section there is a toilet and sink and in the other part there is a sink and shower. It's kinda nice, but strange. :)

I have 4 classes. Calculus 2...hmmm definitely didn't miss math assignments over the summer. Each one takes an average of 4 pages. and that doesn't count the pages of notes from classes!! I am also taking Balancing Work and Family, so far it has been interesting. We are learning about the effect of finances on marriages. It is a class that will actually have a real life application (besides how much work in foot pounds it will take to raise an imaginary rope!). The third class I am taking is Creative Arts. Possible the only upside to this class is that the professor has a British accent. It is a general class and is very similar to the Humanities class that I took from SUU. Because it is a general it is HUGE!! We are in a rather large auditorium and it is pretty full. There are probably 700 kids...slight change from the 30 kids in a class at EHS! Probably my favorite class is Dynamic Fitness. I have only had that class once but I am so excited for it--makes me wish I didn't have any more generals and I could just take classes for my major. The last class that I have is Connections. Because I came on athletic scholarship I had to take this with all other incoming freshman. We got lectured on raising the bar and standard of athletes on and off the field...aka don't be the standard jock. After lectures on how to study and adjust to college life (apparently athletes aren't smart enough or responsible enough to figure it out on their own) we are required to play games with other athletes! I am just so thrilled for that class! I am also taking an Institute class...Book of Mormon from Brother Curtis Jacobs. I've been twice but it was really good. I highly recommend Brother Jacobs to anyone who has the chance to take a class from him.

We had physicals on Monday...I passed minus my leg. I talked with the trainers and they are going to hold me out of practice until December. :( The next day I talked with the coaches and they said they can find enough torturous exercises that I can do without impact or using that leg that I will wish I wasn't doing track...I told them to bring it on. Practice will start next Wednesday! We had a track meeting where we had to sign like a ream of papers each! I probably signed away my life and some of yours so just beware. ;)

Well...guess that will do it for now.

Oh and Ben here's your picture of where I live.
